On the shore, tree-cutting of commercial species is prohibited, except in the case of dying, diseased or dead trees making a sanitation cut necessary or in the case of trees requiring a salvage cut. In these cases, the trees must be identified and marked, and confirmed by a forestry engineer. The felling shall only bedone during the period when the ground is frozen. In the buffer zone of 15 m (49.2 ft.) from the shoreline, no heavy machinery is authorized.
Any control on vegetation is prohibited on a depth of 5 meters on the shore measured from the high water line of a lake or watercourse when this part of the shore has a slope less than 30%. The depth is pushed back to 7,5 meters when the slope is or exceeds 30%. By control on vegetation, we mean: mowing of grass;brush cutting; felling of trees other that described above.
Since criteria for the felling of a tree on the shore differ from those in a forest, make sure your forest engineer is aware of the municpal regulations applicable on the shore.
